Indian trip: at the heart of artisanal textile know-how!

20 students from the Fashion Design and Fashion Business programs recently enjoyed an unforgettable experience in India, at the heart of the artisan textile industry. The ten-day immersive study trip took them to New Delhi and Jaipur, cradles of ancestral know-how blending tradition and innovation.

Highlights

Embroidery workshop

Accompanied by professionals, participants plunged into the heart of traditional Indian embroidery techniques. Each participant was able to give free rein to his or her inspiration by creating one or more unique pieces.

Professional visits

Immersion in Pero by Aneeth Arora: digital design, sewing and embroidery, and visit to INJIRI Design.

Blockprint workshop

Blockprinting is a traditional printing method that involves carving a pattern in wood and using it as a stamp with natural dyes. The Indian experts, who have a perfect command of this technique, were able to teach it to the students during the workshop.

Natural dyeing

In India, natural dyeing is part of the textile manufacturing process. It is obtained from organic and mineral sources, then used to color yarns and fabrics. During a workshop, the students discovered different production techniques

Indigo

Once again, students were introduced to a traditional Indian technique. Used for centuries in India, this dye produces an intense, distinctive blue, a symbol of pride for those who wear it.

Cultural exploration

From the legendary Taj Mahal in Agra to the bustling markets of New Delhi, majestic temples and the old city of Jaipur, students explored India's countless cultural treasures.

Lasting inspiration

The trip made the students aware of the importance of preserving these unique skills while adapting them to today's responsible fashion challenges.

This return to their artisanal roots is a real source of inspiration for the young designers' future collections and projects.
